Sun Ra - The Futuristic Sound of Sun Ra SOLD

Savoy Records

Rare original 1st pressing released in 1961 on Savoy Records. This is the 1st album to be recorded by the Arkestra in New York and for sure one of the most accessible Sun Ra record. Obviously swing and bop oriented, Ra adds some exotica, latin, asian, and free jazz elements in his music. all these ingredients result in this sublime masterpiece. Sun Ra plays the piano, Bernard McKinney plays trombone and euphonium, Marshall Allen is on alto sax, flute and 'morrow' (a Japanese Shakuhachi with a Bb clarinet mouthpiece), John Gilmore is on tenor sax and bass clarinet, Pat Patrick on bass saxophone, Ronnie Boykins on bass, Willie Jones on drums, Leah Ananda on congas and Ricky Murray sings on the superb "China Gate" track.
Superb copy, the record has just some superficial marks that don't affect the sound, shiny and clean copy. The cover shows light wear on top edge, otherwise, in beautiful condition, still in shrink!!

Extremely rare original US press on Satrun of the cult Sun Ra lp, "Montreux 76".
Essential album recording live on the famous Swiss jazz festival, intense performance by the Arkestra, one long track on the side A called "For Those Who Wait For The Sun Rise" and on side B, "The Other Tomorrow", "Land Of The Drum", "Out Where Others Dwell" and " "On a Satellite". The matrix begins with a erased number (MS 706) and after MS 87976 A and on side B, 87976 B. Ther is no volume number written on the labels. Unique art cover (drawing pasted on the cover). Never seen before!!!

Sun Ra - The Invisible Shield SOLD

Saturn Records

Original US press on Saturn Records released in 1974.
This album has a paradox, between the side A, recorded in 1962 - 1963 containing great modern jazz tracks but very different to the side B recorded in end 60's, early 70's including beautiful tracks like the deep exoticazed jazz, "Island in the Sun" with great flute work, the heavy heavy free jazz "The Invisible Shield" and the avant garde track, "Janus" with esoteric chant, percussion and flute under space echo... Great lp!!
The record has several marks, you can hear ticks due to a scuff on the third, fourth and begining of fifth track. Otherwise, plays fine.
Cover has light crease on one corner. Unique art cover.

Sun Ra - Nidhamu SOLD

Saturn Records

In 1971, in Denmark, at the end of a tour, Sun Ra suddenly decided to take his whole band to Egypt. They had no concerts and no contacts there but Ra sold some recording rights to Black Lion to pay for the tickets and they flew out. Salah Ragab persuaded the Ministry of Culture to book a concert at the Balloon Theatre (for another tiny audience: only the first 4 rows were occupied). Two more concerts followedb. They stayed for more than a fortnight, making a film while they were there and finally, by band-members selling various personal items, raised the money to fly home.
Nidhamu is a beautiful sound document of this epic Sun Ra trip in Egypt, the bulk of the material coming from a show at the Ballon Theater in Cairo including free cosmic moog improv and long lo-fi esoteric jazz theme by the arkestra.
This copy is clean and shiny, no scuff, however you can hear light clicks due i think to static dust or the pressing, mainly on the beginning of the side B.
The cover is in excellent condition, just some minor wear.
Rare gluing diy copy autographed on the back cover by Sun Ra, check the picture.

Sun Ra - Discipline 27-II SOLD

Saturn Records

Rare original pressing on Saturn Records, released in 1973.
This brilliant lp is one of the best Sun Ra recording for me. Sublime spiritual swing jazz session, smooth, positive and cosmic, sometimes free but far away from the 60's Ra experimentations!!
My favorite track on this album is "Neptune", a cool swing with repetitive vocal chant by the "Space Ethnic Voices", baritone sax line similar to "Space Is The Place" and crazy horn solos over the top!!! The title track is cool too with spoken word by Ra, and each lyrics is repeated by the 'ethnic voices', a superb 24 minutes piece!!!
The record shows only some superficial marks and plays excellent!!! The cover shows some light wear on the edges and corners, little writing by a pencil on the back, easy to remove!! A beautiful collectible copy!!!

Sun Ra - Cosmo Earth Fantasy / Sub Underground SOLD

Saturn Records

Another futuristik / avant garde lp including a live recording from 1974 in Philadelphia. This album is showing the sound evolution of Ra and his Arkestra between the end 60's and the mid 70's , we sell the original 1st press on Saturn with DIY cover. Very hard to find!!
The records shows some superficial marks, no scuff, it plays fine with some light background noises.
The cover shows writing on the front cover, (pencil), easy to remove from the previous owner. Solid edges and corners.

Sun Ra - Fate in a Pleasant Mood SOLD

Saturn Records / SR9956

Recorded between 1960 and 1961 in Chicago before the Arkestra moves to New York and released in 1965 on the Sun Ra label Saturn Records. "Fate In a Pleasant Mood" is more a modern jazz set compared to the later avant garde / electronic period, but this session is still unusual with complex orchestration and spiritual feeling. The Arkestra always has the same desire to explore a new sound direction.
The record plays excellent with only some superficial marks that don't affect the sound. The cover has tape on two edges, I think the previous owner did it because there is a beginning of a seam split on both edges. This lp is the original 1st press. It is very hard to find now in any condition, a real collector's item!!!

Sun Ra - The Sound Of Joy SOLD

Delmark Records

Original pressing released in 1968 on Delmark Records.
This session was recorded in 1957 in Chicago. This lp is an important piece to understand the creative evolution of Sun Ra and his Arkestra. The swing is combined here with some innovative arrangements by Ra, the sound is really different compares to the classic bop / hard bop of other bands from the same period!! Sun Ra reveals us his talent as a big band conductor like Mingus or Ellington.
The record looks shiny and clean. It plays excellent!!! The cover shows some light wears on the front, back, corners, and edges with no seam splits nor tears. Just a little writing by a pencil on the back cover.

Cover/Vinyl: VG++/VG++ 130€

Sun Ra - Art Forms Of Dimensions Tomorrow SOLD

Thoth Intergalactic

Rare original pressing on Thoth Intergalactic, released in 1965, and recorded between 1961 and 1962.
This lp is often considered as the 1st "outside" Sun Ra recording. The drummer and the sound engineer, Tommy Hunter, uses for the first time some strange reverberations and special effects on "cluster of galaxies" and "solar drums". Like Tommy Hunter says: "I wasn't sure what Sun Ra would think of it... I thought he might be mad - but he loved it. It blew his mind! By working the volume of the output on the playback I could control the effect, make it fast or slow, drop it out, or whatever."
Sun Ra plays the piano, Sun Harp is on the gong and percussions, Manny Smith on trumpet, Ali Hassan on trombone, Pat Patrick on baritone sax, percussions, and clarinet, John Gilmore on tenor sax, bass clarinet, and percussions, Marshall Allen on alto sax, bells, and percussions, Ronnie Boykins is on bass, John Ore on second bass on the track "Kosmos in Blue", C. Scoby Stroman is on drums, Clifford Jarvis is on drums for the track" Infinity of the Universe", Tommy Hunter is on drums and percussions for the tracks "Cluster of Galaxies", "Lights on a Satellite" & "Kosmos in Blue".
The record shows some light marks but they don't affect the sound and it plays great!!!
The back cover has some light stains, a pencil writing but easy to remove, and another little writing in the lower right.

Sun Ra - The Night Of The Purple Moon SOLD

Thoth Intergalactic / IR 522

This lp was recorded in New York in 1970, with a small committee: John Gilmore on tenor sax and percussions, Danny Davis on alto sax and clarinet, and Stafford James on electric bass. Sun Ra uses two moog synthesizers and the strange RMI rocksichords, a kind of electric harpsichord with a subtle echo. Purple moon is very unique in the work of Sun Ra, it's not a typical Arkestra big band explosion but more an introspective musical meditation with different themes and variations. We sell the original pressing on Thorth.
The cover is a little bit dirty but in superb condition, just a light general wear with no tears on edges and corners. The record looks beautiful, just some superficial marks that don't affect the sound. It plays excellent.

Cover/Vinyl: EX/EX 220€

Sun Ra - Cosmic Tones For Mental Therapy SOLD

Saturn Records

Scarce original 1st pressing released in 1967 on Saturn Records. This session was recorded in 1963 and is still one of the most discussed album by the Ra's specialist. It's a kind of sound weirdness under space echo, an afro jazz experimental therapy for the open minds!!!! Sun Ra plays the hammond B-3 organ, the clavioline and percussions, Marshall Allen plays the oboe, Danny Davis is on alto sax and flute, John Gilmore is on bass and clarinet, Bernard Pettaway is on bass trombone, Pat Patrick is on baritone saxophone, Robert Cummings on bass clarinet, Ronnie Boykins on bass, Clifford Jarvis on drums, and Tommy Hunter on percussions and reverb.
The record shows some superficial marks with no scuffs and it plays excellent!!! The cover shows just a light wear and a little writing by a pencil on the back, a solid copy!!!

Cover/Vinyl: VG++/VG++ 130€

Sun Ra - My Brother The Wind SOLD

Saturn Records

Original 1st pressing released in 1970 on Saturn Records.
This album is the best companion of "the night of the purple moon" lp that we are selling as well. This is the same line up except Marchall Allen who replaces Stafford James. This lp is also more a free outsider with long freakout sessions.
Sun Ra uses two moog synthesizers, John Gilmore plays tenor sax and percussions, Marshall Allen plays oboe, piccolo, and flute, and Danny Davis is on alto sax and clarinet.
The record shows some superficial marks with no scuffs. It plays fine with some occasional light static clicks. The cover is in solid condition with no seam split. Just some light stains on the front and back and a minor tear on one edge.

Cover/Vinyl: VG++/VG+ 130€

Sun Ra - Horizon SOLD

Saturn Records

Scarce original press on Saturn Records released in 1978.
This lp contains a big part of the famous Balloon Theatre concert in Cairo that took place in 1971.
The Arkestra gives an incredible musical orgie featuring insane moog solos by Sun Ra, free horn improvisations by Marshall Allen, Danny Davis, Kwame Hadi, and John Gilmore, intensive drums and percussions by Tommy Hunter, Lex Humphries, and Clifford Jarvis!!
The record shows some light marks but they don't affect the sound. It plays excellent!!!
The cover shows a pencil writing on the front but easy to remove!!! Hand made cover!!!
